Learning to Ground Yourself in God

Have you ever had a season where you felt whole and complete and knew deep inside it was God at work in you? That’s where I’ve been lately. God has been gently healing my heart, refining my mindset, and helping me see life through His eyes. And here’s the truth: this isn’t just for me. This healing, this restoration, it’s something God desires for all His children.

Healing isn’t just about feeling better. It’s about becoming whole, learning to live freely, and stepping into the fullness of who God created us to be. But like any deep work, it’s a journey. And learning to ground yourself in God is one of the most important tools to help you stay anchored through it.

What Happens When You Heal with God

Going through healing with God brings transformation at the deepest level. Here’s what happens when you allow Him to walk with you through the process:

  • He transforms you into His image (2 Corinthians 3:18). You begin to think, feel, and act more like Christ.
  • He restores your confidence and self-worth. You stop defining yourself by your past or others’ opinions and start walking in your God-given identity.
  • You start living boldly in your purpose. No more shrinking back. You step into what He created you to do.
  • You build healthier relationships. With a healed heart and renewed mind, you no longer tolerate toxic patterns. You also learn to respond rather than react in difficult situations.

Expect Resistance: The Battle Is Real

Let’s be honest. Healing is not a straight line. You will face challenges. Here’s why:

1. You’re Going Against the Enemy

When you start walking with God, you’re actively leaving the enemy’s territory. That doesn’t go unnoticed. The enemy wants to lure you back into the patterns and mindsets that led to destruction (John 10:10).

2. You’re Disrupting Old Patterns

Napoleon Hill, in Outwitting the Devil, explains a concept called “hypnotic rhythm”. This is the automatic, unconscious repetition of habits and thoughts that control your life if you’re not intentional. These ingrained systems try to pull you back like a stretched rubber band. Your old habits, thoughts, and emotional responses don’t go away without a fight.

If you’re not alert, you’ll slowly drift back into the old rhythm. That’s when discouragement and doubt start creeping in.

How to Stay Grounded and Keep Moving Forward

Let’s talk about how to stay grounded in God, especially when old patterns try to return or when you feel stuck.

1. Record What God Is Doing

Write down the truths God is teaching you. Journal your healing moments, breakthroughs, and His words to you.

On hard days, go back and read them. It will remind you that growth is happening even when it feels like nothing is changing.

Psychologically, this is called reinforcement; repeating new beliefs and behaviors until they take root in your subconscious mind. Like Napoleon Hill said, you must repeat and persist until new rhythms replace the old ones.

2. Ask God What He Thinks

God wants to be part of your every thought and feeling. When you’re triggered or discouraged, go to Him.

I’ve been learning to overcome my need for validation from others. But recently, I found myself slipping; looking for approval from my family. The result left me heartbroken. I turned to God and asked Him what He thought. He reminded me:

“You are not what was said about you. You are a work in progress.

He led me to Philippians 4:8, which says:

“Whatever is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, think about such things.”

That includes thinking those good things about yourself. He’s not done with you, and that alone is a reason to keep walking forward.

3. Ask for a Way Out

If you feel completely stuck, ask God for help. He promises He’ll always give you a way out:

“No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, He will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.”
—1 Corinthians 10:13 (NIV)

He always has a path forward, even if it’s one small step at a time.

Grounding Yourself in God Is a Lifelong Journey

This walk with God—this healing journey—doesn’t have a final destination. It’s lifelong. But here’s the promise:

“If you remain in Me and I in you, you will bear much fruit.”
—John 15:5

As you ground yourself daily in Him:

  • You become more like Jesus.
  • You find peace and clarity in your mind.
  • You heal emotional wounds.
  • And you walk boldly in your purpose.

A Final Word of Encouragement

If you’ve stumbled, don’t give up. If you feel stuck, reach out to God. Remember what He’s already done in you, and let it push you forward. You’re not going back. You’re becoming.

Let this be your daily reminder:

“He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion.” —Philippians 1:6

You are a work in progress. And progress is beautiful.
